To The Child I'll Never Have

I want so desperately to feel you growing inside me.
To feel you kicking and moving.
To hear your heart beating.
Having morning sickness.
I had such plans for you.
I wanted the perfect baby shower,
With all my friends and family.
Maybe a 5 Generation picture too.
Little pink socks or little blue shoes.
Baby dolls and baseball bats,
But more than likely, I'll never have any of that.
Changing your diapers.
First words and first steps.
3 AM feedings and potty training.
Showing you off to all my friends, taking you to the park.
Your first day of kindergarten.
Loosing your first tooth.
Reading your favorite story to you

Before tucking you in at night.
Taking your training wheels off of your bike.
Brushing your hair at night,

Listing in while you say your prayers.
Teaching you how to drive, filling me with fright!
Your first date, and slumber parties.
Your first home run and touchdowns.
I want all of that.
Your Senior Prom, seeing you dressed like Cinderella,
Coming down the stairs to meet your Prince Charming.
Or maybe the other way around.
I know that you may never happen.
But I am here, just in case you decide to show up!
